Frequently Asked Questions

How do we fix RodeXit seals?

Though you normally use screws and washers to fix RodeXit seals, you can also fix the seals by using kickplates or a mounting strip. Another option is to secure the proofing strip by means of an adhesive or double-sided adhesive which can bind thermoplastic elastomers.

How many layers of RodeXit do we need to achieve protection from rodents?

Our experience is that though a single RodeXit layer is normally sufficient to protect spaces, a double layer installation works well if the rodent pressure is very high calling for a high degree of protection from rodents.

Can we proof gaps wider than the RodeXit strip's 3.5 cm. width?

Yes, you can seal gaps upto 5 cm. wide for which you can use two RodeXit strips.

Is RodeXit strip useful in proofing openings through walls?

You can use RodeXit seals for proofing holes in walls around pipes or cables by overlapping four strips in form of a square around a round pipe or cable.

Do you suggest alternate methods to fix the RodeXit seal to a door apart from the use of screws?

Yes, you can use silicone sealant at the upper edge of the seal to fix it to a door.

What tool do we need to cut the RodeXit strips for installing them?

You need a straight tin snip with long blades to cut RodeXit into strips while installing them.

Does the RodeXit strip need any maintenance?

Though the RodeXit strip does not need any maintenance, you can check it periodically to be sure that it is intact and does not have mechanical or rodent damage that could compromise the rodent protection it offers.

Is the RodeXit seal useful in closing vertical gaps?

We recommend use of RodeXit in vertical astragal gaps of double doors in glass or other material. To retain the aesthetic appearance of a door with a seal you can cover the seal with a mounting strip matching the door.

How can you use RodeXit for proofing at an angle?

By bending the RodeXit strip at a 90 degree, angle you can cover the space between two objects with a gap with the RodeXit bending at right angle at the centre.

How do you accommodate fixtures and other obstacles while fixing RodeXit proofing strip?

You can easily cut the RodeXit strip either vertically or horizontally to fit in the shape of the gap you are seeking to close.

Which screws do we need to fix RodeXit proofing strip?

You can use either flat-headed screws e.g. ¾ – 1 inch (20 – 25 mm) long No. 10 (4.8 mm) hex head screws or pan head screws with a No. 2 Philips recess.

How can we avoid driving screws through the RodeXit proofing strip?

You can either place a washer between the head of the screw and RodeXit strip or use an aluminium carpet trim or transition mounting strip.

How can we cover uneven gaps with RodeXit strip?

You can cover such spaces by using smaller RodeXit strips that are at angles to cover the gap fully.
